CBT TOEFL Test Summary• Test Summary • Registration • Section review • Score • Test preparation CBT TOEFL was introduced in 2001 in an attempt to bring the element of adaptively into the test. It was also believed that computer-based testing will make taking the TOEFL more convenient (with permanent testing centers, easier test registration, and the possibility to preview the results after the test). Essentially, the CBT TOEFL measures the same English language skills as the paper-based test (listening, grammar, reading writing). The difference is in methodology and format. First, the CBT TOEFL is a computer-adaptive test which mean that the score is determined not by the number of correct and incorrect answers (as in paper-based test), but by the level of difficulty of the questions asked. In terms of format, the CBT TOEFL made the writing section a compulsory element of the test and introduced a number of new question types in the listening, grammar and reading sections.
